Ingredients

For the cookie dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 250 grams
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, softened one and a half sticks
  • 0.75 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

For the festive touch

  • 1.25 cups Red, White, and Blue M&M's 10 ounce bag
  • 2 tablespoons Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment or a nonstick baking mat.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy—about 2 minutes.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix just until combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  • Stir in the M&M's and sprinkles using a rubber spatula, scraping down the sides of the bowl to ensure even incorporation.
  • Using a cookie scoop, scoop out mounds of dough and roll into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.

Baking

  • Bake on the center rack of the preheated oven for 10 to 11 minutes, or until they're lightly golden brown.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature before reheating as desired.
