  • 2 large large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith) Use fresh, crisp apples for best flavor.
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 large egg Whisked for the egg mixture.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Used in the egg mixture.
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Panko gives extra crunch.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar For coating.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Enhances flavor.
  • as needed Nonstick cooking spray To prevent sticking.

Preparation

  • Peel the apples if desired, then cut them into fry-like sticks, patting dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  • Set up your coating stations: Bowl 1 with flour, Bowl 2 with whisked egg and milk, Bowl 3 with combined panko breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
  • Dredge each apple stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Lightly spray the coated apple fries with nonstick cooking spray and arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking in batches if necessary.

Cooking

  • Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 7-9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking until they’re golden and crispy.
  • Serve warm with dipping sauces like caramel, yogurt, or whipped cream.

Notes

For a fun twist, try pairing with vanilla ice cream or additional cinnamon sugar before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the air fryer to maintain crispiness.
