Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Coating Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Tools

  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Melted chocolate, caramel, or dulce de leche (optional for dipping)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a gentle boil.
  • Remove from heat, stir in flour all at once, and mix until the dough forms a smooth ball that pulls away from the sides.
  • Let the dough rest for 5 minutes, then add the egg and vanilla. Stir until smooth and slightly glossy.

Shaping and Cooking

  • Spoon dough into a piping bag and pipe 1-inch pieces onto parchment paper. Cut with scissors into small bites.
  • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with non-stick spray. Place churro bites in a single layer (don’t overcrowd). Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar. Toss the warm churro bites in the mixture until fully coated.
  • Enjoy immediately with melted chocolate or caramel for dipping.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the air fryer; fry in batches for even crispiness. You can pipe dough onto parchment and freeze to air fry straight from frozen, adding 2 extra minutes. Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a perfect summer dessert combo.
