Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar (plus more for coating)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (plus more for coating)
  • cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tbsp Greek yogurt Can be substituted with dairy-free yogurt.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil (or butter alternative)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, 2 tbsp coconut sugar, and ½ tsp cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, combine applesauce, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil. Stir until smooth.
  • Add wet ingredients into dry and mix gently until a soft dough forms. Don’t overmix.
  • Roll dough into bite-sized balls (about 1 tablespoon each).

Cooking

  • Place bites in the air fryer basket lined with parchment, leaving space between each.
  • Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  • While still warm, toss churro bites in a cinnamon-sugar mixture for that classic coating.

Notes

Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer for crispiness. You can mix the dough ahead of time and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before air frying. Serve with melted dark chocolate or Greek yogurt dip.
