Ingredients

  • 1 cup of fruit jelly grape, apricot, or any flavor you love
  • 1/2 cup ketchup for that rich, tangy base
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar adds the perfect zesty kick
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar for a touch of sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard to balance the flavors with a mild sharpness
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for a savory note
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder for depth of flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika optional, but great for a smoky touch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper for seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, to add some heat
  • These ingredients come together to form a rich glossy sauce that can be used for glazing, dipping, or marinating. The beauty of this recipe is in its simplicity — it’s a one-pot wonder that can be easily customized based on what you have in your kitchen or what flavor profile you’re craving.

Instructions

Combine the Ingredients

  • Start by adding the jelly, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and all the spices (garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper) into a medium saucepan. Stir everything together until smooth and well-mixed.

Heat the Mixture

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the sauce occasionally to help the jelly melt and the sugar dissolve into the other ingredients. This should take about 3-5 minutes. You’ll start to notice the sauce becoming smooth and well-combined.

Simmer and Thicken

  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently. The sauce will gradually thicken and take on a rich, glossy consistency. If you like your sauce thicker, you can let it simmer a little longer.

Taste and Fine-Tune

  • Don’t forget to taste your sauce as it cooks! Adjust the flavors to your liking — if you prefer a sweeter sauce, add a bit more brown sugar. Want it tangier? A splash of vinegar will do the trick. For those who like a spicy kick, feel free to increase the cayenne pepper.

Cool and Enjoy

  • Once the sauce is thickened and flavorful, remove it from the heat. Let it cool for a few minutes before using. As it cools, the sauce will continue to thicken, so don’t worry if it seems a little runny at first.
