Dip Base

  • 6.5 oz soft herbed cheese spread (such as Alouette or Boursin) Or use plain cream cheese mixed with 2 tsp dried herbs and a pinch of salt if needed.

Toppings

  • 0.5 cup fresh tomatoes, finely chopped (Roma or cherry tomatoes) Drain juicy seeds if tomatoes are watery to avoid a soggy dip.
  • 0.25 cup fresh basil, chiffonade or finely chopped Fresh basil adds aroma — don’t skip it.
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinaigrette glaze or reduction Use sparingly.

Serving Suggestions

  • to taste pita chips, crackers, or thinly sliced baguette for serving Optional add-ins: a squeeze of lemon zest, flaky sea salt, or cracked black pepper.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose a large shallow plate or small platter. Pat it dry to ensure the cheese adheres nicely.
  • Spread the soft herbed cheese evenly in the center of the plate, leaving a clean quarter-inch border. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon for a smooth finish.
  • Evenly scatter the chopped tomatoes over the cheese layer in a single, uniform layer.
  • Sprinkle the chopped basil over the tomatoes.
  • Drizzle the balsamic glaze back and forth across the plate in thin lines for flavor without sogginess.
  • Serve immediately with pita chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices.

Notes

For an elevated appetizer, serve with marinated olives or prosciutto. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days.
