Ingredients
  

For the Biscuit Base

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed Ensure butter is very cold
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk Can substitute with regular milk

For the Egg Mixture

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)
  • 4 strips turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled Can substitute with regular bacon
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional) For garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and then mix in the buttermilk until just combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and onion powder.

Layering

  • Spread half of the biscuit dough in the prepared baking dish.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit layer and sprinkle the crumbled turkey bacon and remaining cheddar cheese on top.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the remaining biscuit dough over the egg mixture.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until golden and set.

Notes

Best served fresh; can be paired with fresh fruit or sautéed greens. Reheat leftovers at 350°F (175°C) covered to avoid drying out. For variations, add spices or different types of cheese.
