  • 1 loaf loaf of bread (preferably brioche or challah) You can use other sturdy breads but ensure they can soak up the custard.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk For a richer flavor, consider using half-and-half.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Consider swapping with pumpkin spice or nutmeg for a twist.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish thoroughly.
  • Cut the bread into cubes and spread them evenly in the dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is soaked.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Baking

  • The next morning, remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and set.
  • Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh berries for a burst of color.

Notes

Store any leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat portions in the microwave or oven until warmed through. Feel free to add in chopped nuts or chocolate chips for texture.
