  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 500 g ground beef Can substitute half for ground pork
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (400g)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine Can substitute with beef broth or omit
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • to serve Parmesan cheese, grated

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
  • Toss in the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook it until browned.
  • Once browned, stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring it all to a lively boil, then reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

Bolognese sauce can be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for up to three months. When reheating, add a splash of water or broth if it looks too thick.
