  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Dark chocolate can enhance richness.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Almonds or pecans recommended.

Preparation

  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in sugar, water, and salt. Mix well until sugar dissolves.
  • Insert a candy thermometer and cook, stirring constantly, until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour the mixture onto a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Let it cool for 5 minutes, then sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  • Once the chocolate is melted, spread it evenly across the surface.
  • Top with chopped nuts, and allow the toffee to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 weeks. Avoid refrigeration.
