  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean) Can substitute with ground turkey or plant-based alternatives.
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced Sweet onions work well.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For caramelizing onions.
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Toasted until golden.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • to taste fresh parsley, chopped Optional for garnish.

Preparation

  • Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 10-12 minutes until golden and caramelized.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until fully browned, around 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes.
  • Toast the hamburger buns until golden.
  • Scoop generous portions of the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and cap with the top bun.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

Serving suggestions include pairing with sweet potato fries or a side salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the fridge and reheated on the stove.
