  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded Feel free to substitute with your favorite cheese.
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour All-purpose flour can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional) Can be substituted with Italian herbs or everything bagel seasoning.
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • as needed cups ice water

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese and softened butter. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually stir in the flour, salt, and optional spices until you achieve a crumbly texture.
  • Slowly add ice water, mixing until a cohesive dough forms. It should be smooth but not sticky.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick.

Baking

  • Use a knife or pizza cutter to slice the dough into small squares, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake your Cheez-Its for 10-12 minutes, keeping an eye on them until they turn a lovely golden brown and crisp.
  • Once baked, allow them to cool before enjoying!

Notes

For added flavor, experiment with different cheeses or spices. Roll the dough as thinly as possible for extra crunchiness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
