Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional) For added flavor, optional.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk or cream (adjust for desired texture) Add until reaching the desired creaminess.

Optional Garnishes

  • extra melted butter For drizzling on top.
  • chopped pecans For a crunchy texture.
  • fresh thyme For garnish.

Instructions

Boiling Sweet Potatoes

  • Place the peeled and chopped sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Cook for 15–20 minutes, until fork-tender.

Mashing

  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Let them sit uncovered for 1–2 minutes to let any excess moisture evaporate. Mash until smooth.

Mixing Ingredients

  • Stir in butter, honey, cinnamon (if using), and salt while the potatoes are still warm so everything melts together beautifully.

Adjusting Texture

  • Add milk or cream a little at a time, stirring until you reach your desired creaminess.

Serving

  • Adjust seasoning if needed, then transfer to a serving bowl. Drizzle with extra honey or melted butter, and garnish with chopped pecans or thyme if desired.

Notes

For ultra-smooth mash, use a hand mixer for a whipped, restaurant-style texture. You can prepare the mash a day in advance and reheat gently on the stove with a splash of milk. Adding a touch of nutmeg or vanilla can enhance flavor.
