Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 12 count Hawaiian rolls, sliced horizontally One package
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 for flavor; leaner if preferred
  • 6-8 slices American or cheddar cheese Halved if needed to fit sliders
  • to taste dill pickles, sliced Lengthwise or into rounds
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced or finely diced
  • 2-4 tbsp ketchup To spread
  • 2-4 tbsp mustard To spread
  • 1 tsp salt To taste
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp black pepper To taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no pink remains, about 6-8 minutes. Season with 1 tsp salt and 1/4–1/2 tsp black pepper. If there's excess fat, drain it away, leaving a little for flavor.
  • Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves snugly in the prepared baking dish.

Assembly

  • Evenly spread the cooked beef over the roll bottoms.
  • Tuck cheese slices over the hot beef so they begin to melt.
  • Add pickles and onions on top of the cheese.
  • Lightly spread ketchup and mustard across the inside of the top roll halves, then place them over the layered fillings. Press gently to compact.

Cooking

  • Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the sliders are heated through. Optionally, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end while watching closely for a golden top.
  • Let rest for 2-3 minutes, then slice between sliders and serve hot.

Notes

These sliders can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated. Alternatively, they can be frozen before baking. Adjust baking time if prepared from a chilled state.
