Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 bags frozen tater tots Standard size, about 1–2 bags depending on crowd.
  • 1–2 cups shredded cheese Sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend.
  • 6–8 slices cooked bacon Crumbled; can use turkey bacon for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup sour cream or ranch dressing For drizzling.
  • 8 pieces skewers Metal skewers recommended.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven according to the tater tot package instructions (most brands recommend 400°F–425°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment or a nonstick mat.
  • Spread tater tots in a single layer on the sheet and bake until golden brown and crispy—follow package time but add a few extra minutes if you like them extra-crisp. Flip once halfway through for even browning.

Assembly

  • Remove tots from oven and let them sit 2–3 minutes so they’re easier to handle but still hot enough to melt cheese.
  • Thread 4–6 tots onto each skewer, packing them snugly so they hold together.
  • Arrange skewers back on the baking sheet and scatter shredded cheese evenly over the tots.

Finishing

  • Return skewers to the oven for 2–4 minutes, or switch to broil for 30–90 seconds—watch closely—to melt and slightly brown the cheese.
  • Remove from oven, drizzle with sour cream or ranch, and sprinkle with crumbled bacon. Let cool a minute before serving warm.

Notes

Serve these skewers as handheld appetizers or alongside heartier sides. Storage safety: Refrigerate leftovers within two hours. Consume within 3–4 days. Oven reheat recommended for best texture.
