Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 150 grams all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free blend if needed.
  • 100 ml water
  • 100 ml milk Can substitute with almond milk for a nutty flavor.
  • 80 grams butter Use unsalted butter for richer flavor.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

For the cream filling

  • 500 ml milk
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 100 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 180 grams butter

For serving

  • Icing sugar or your favorite garnish

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease and flour your cake pans.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 150 grams of flour, 100 ml of water, 100 ml of milk, 80 grams of butter, 4 eggs, baking powder, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool.

Making the cream filling

  • In a saucepan, heat 500 ml of milk and 150 grams of sugar until dissolved.
  • In another bowl, mix 100 grams of flour with 2 eggs. Slowly add the warm milk mixture, whisking constantly.
  • Pour this mixture back into the saucepan and cook until thickened. Then stir in 180 grams of butter until fully combined.

Assembling the cake

  • Once your cakes are cool, layer them with the cream filling in between.
  • Dust the top with icing sugar or your favorite garnish before serving.

Notes

This cake pairs beautifully with tea or coffee. For a festive twist, drizzle chocolate sauce over the top or add a sprinkle of nuts.
