Ingredients
  

Casserole Layers

  • 12 slices white bread Opt for day-old bread for better texture.
  • 8 oz deli ham
  • 8 oz deli turkey
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese Can substitute with cheddar or other cheeses.

Egg Mixture

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp melted butter For greasing the baking dish.

Garnish

  • Powdered sugar For dusting before serving.
  • Raspberry jam Optional for serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease your baking dish with some melted butter.
  • Layer 6 slices of bread evenly at the bottom of the dish.
  • Add half of the deli ham, followed by half of the turkey, and then half of the Swiss cheese on top of the bread.
  • Repeat the layering process with the remaining bread, meats, and cheese.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and cayenne until well combined.
  • Pour this egg mixture evenly over the layered dish.
  • For best results, let the casserole rest for 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Dust with powdered sugar just before serving. You can also offer raspberry jam on the side for a sweet dip.

Notes

Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze before baking. Use different meats or cheeses to personalize the dish.
