  • 0.5 cup 1/2 cup of sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract Enhances the flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon Add more for a stronger flavor.
  • 0.25 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon of salt Balances sweetness.
  • Butter (for greasing) Generously grease the baking dish.

Optional Toppings

  • Powdered sugar For dusting.
  • Maple syrup A delicious drizzle.
  • Fresh fruit Such as berries or sliced bananas.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish generously with butter.
  • Cut the bread into cubes and spread them evenly across the dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is fluffy and well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the cubes of bread, ensuring each piece is thoroughly soaked.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Alternatively, for more flavor, refrigerate it overnight.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 10 minutes to allow the top to brown beautifully.
  • Once cooked, serve warm with optional toppings such as powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit.

Notes

This casserole can be safely stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm individual portions in the microwave or pop the whole dish back in the oven until heated through. Can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
