  • 4 pounds pork shoulder Can substitute with chicken or beef
  • 1 piece onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce Use your favorite brand
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Adjust sweetness to preference
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika Can add more for smoky flavor
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • as needed burger buns Optional for serving.

Preparation

  • Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker.
  • Top the pork with the chopped onion and minced garlic.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and apple cider vinegar until well combined.
  • Pour this savory sauce mixture over the pork.

Cooking

  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easy to shred.
  • Once cooked, shred the pork using two forks, mixing it with the sauce still in the cooker for maximum flavor.

Serving

  • Serve on burger buns if you like, and enjoy!

Notes

For the best flavor, consider serving with toppings like coleslaw, pickles, or additional barbecue sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days, or freeze for three months.
