Ingredients

For the ribs

  • 1 package (3-4 lbs) St. Louis-Style Spare Ribs

For the sauce

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar Can substitute with honey for a different flavor profile.
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce Can substitute with soy sauce for a unique taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder Adjust to taste for spiciness.
  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

Preparation

  • If desired, carefully remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and cut the rack in half.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, chili powder, mustard powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and onion powder. Set aside 1/4 cup of this mixture for later.
  • Use half of the remaining mixture to rub all over the ribs, ensuring they are well-coated.

Cooking

  • Place the ribs in the slow cooker and pour the rest of the sauce on top.
  • Stack the ribs in the slow cooker, cover, and cook on high for 3 hours.
  • Preheat your broiler. Line a sturdy baking sheet with aluminum foil and transfer the cooked ribs onto it.
  • Brush the reserved 1/4 cup of sauce generously over the ribs.
  • Broil until the sauce bubbles and caramelizes, keeping a close eye to avoid burning.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before cutting into individual portions. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for about 3 months. Reheat in a preheated oven at 250°F until heated through.
