  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup This gives the casserole its creamy consistency.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Use your favorite cheese—cheddar works wonders!
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots The star of the dish that adds crunch.
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced For flavor depth.

  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  • Layer the tater tots over the beef mixture.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top of the tater tots.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown.
  • Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To make this casserole lighter, substitute ground turkey or veggie meat. For added flavor, mix in some BBQ sauce with the beef or add jalapeños for a spicy twist.
