For the Crunchy Topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, pour cold heavy cream and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form.
  • In a separate bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and rum or almond liqueur (if using). Stir until well blended.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the condensed milk mixture with a spatula, keeping the mixture airy.
  • Fold in half of the crushed amaretti cookies and chopped toasted almonds, ensuring even distribution.

Assembly

  • Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners or use small ramekins for individual servings.
  • Spoon the mixture evenly into each liner, filling them almost to the top.
  • Sprinkle the reserved amaretti cookie crumbs and almonds over each portion for a crunchy finish.

Freezing

  • Cover the muffin tin or ramekins with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until fully set.
  • When ready to serve, let them sit at room temperature for 2–3 minutes to soften slightly.
  • Garnish with maraschino cherries or chocolate shavings, and enjoy!

Notes

For a dairy-free option, you can swap heavy cream with coconut cream and use a dairy-free sweetened condensed milk alternative.
